The challenge
In the pits we must carefully balance the number of trucks assigned to each Shovel (or “Loading Unit”). If the Shovel does not have enough Haul Trucks, it cannot be fully productive. If it has too many, then the Haul Trucks are not productive.Rosebel’s Dispatch Office is where this balance of equipment is measured. The cycle of each Haul Truck is monitored in real-time from the location where it is loaded, the route it travels (roads and ramps), where it is dumping, and the return path to the next load. Dispatchers work with Mine Operations and Mine Planning to optimize these movements in a way that reduces traffic and waiting time for both fleets: the Loading Units and the Haul Trucks.
Operators, Supervisors and General Foremen communicate with Dispatchers throughout the shift to share information on road conditions, visibility and equipment maintenance considerations. Orchestrating this balance of fleets in a safe and efficient manner is truly a Team effort
